Match Report 26th July 2011
Mark Lewis X1 119 Runs Beat CACC 118 All Out in the Last Over |
|
Once again the pitch for this splendid arena was looking excellent
considering House & Gardens had covered every inch of it with spikes
in last week’s game. Our thanks go out to them for getting it ready
for this week’s match in what can only be described as one of the
most beautiful settings for a cricket ground.
After losing the toss, CACC opened up the batting with James D and
Nigel W who started confidently facing medium paced bowling. Alas,
Nigel fell unusually quick after 6 runs just as the batting order
had settled themselves in their seats for the long haul. Reserve
Captain Tom who is always a safe bet stepped up next to lead the
assault from the front but failed to deliver his otherwise
enthusiastic game-play without scoring. The scoring didn’t get any
better as we went through our most trusted batsmen tallying an
uncharacteristically poor run rate for 5 wickets. There was a
murmuring within the ranks that the absence of Andy ‘Bird Man’
Blasby was the reason that there wasn’t a single Red Kite in the sky
that day and could it be an omen that we were in trouble.
Not one for superstition up stepped Mike Peach who knocked an
impressive 38 and young Rob bringing up the rear with an decent 28
to keep CACC’s dignity intact with a below average total of 118 all
out.
Drastic action was needed and our young captain took control by
suggesting a quick lunch for the team followed by a spot of
training, to Dave Watret’s delight!
The training paid off and CACC bowled and fielded well and it seemed
nothing could get past Dave sent from the bat. The catch of the
season so far came from Richard Abbatt ( aka the Flying Doctor ) who
launched through the air in spectacular fashion. The ending was
extremely close as CACC kept the run rate low in the last of their
overs, but in the final over Mark Lewis took the winning run.
Acknowledged absences from Captain Lovering, Smithers and Bomber
Harris would have undoubtedly made for a different score line but no
excuses from CACC who really should have won this match with the
team they had.
A deserved win for Mark Lewis X1 with great batting from Richard
Tyce retiring on 52.
All in all an enjoyable game in perfect surroundings…..
